Softball goes 1-3 against NDSCS
The Williston State College Tetons softball team split their four-game series with North Dakota State College of Science, finishing 1-3 over the weekend. With the result, the Tetons move to 18-18 overall on the season and remain tied with Miles Community College atop the MonDak Conference standings.
Williston State's lone victory came in a tightly contested matchup, as the Tetons edged NDSCS behind timely hitting and a strong performance in the circle from Lily Adams. Adams tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out seven and walking just one.
Offensively, the Tetons were powered by the long ball. Jersey Berg and Hayley Hernandez each connected on home runs, accounting for all four RBIs in the game. Berg finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Hernandez also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Cameron MacDonald added a hit and scored, and Taralynn Vershum chipped in a base hit as well.
Despite being outhit 6-4, Williston State capitalized on key opportunities to secure the win. The Tetons' defense battled through three errors but held strong in crucial moments to preserve the victory.
NDSCS was led by Jordan Winkelman, who went 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice. Izzi Parsons recorded the Wildcats' lone RBI. Ella Stewart took the loss in the circle, surrendering four runs on four hits while striking out six.
The Tetons were unable to carry that momentum through the rest of the series, dropping three games to NDSCS. Even so, Williston State remains in a strong position in the MonDak Conference race as the regular season continues.
Williston State will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup as they aim to maintain their spot at the top of the standings.
