Softball Rounds Out The Regular Season | Post Season Outlook
The Williston State College softball team closed out its regular season with a four-game set against Dawson Community College, finishing the weekend 1-3 while showing flashes of offensive strength in the opener.
The Tetons started strong, taking Game 1 with a convincing 6-1 victory. A balanced effort at the plate and a steady performance in the circle set the tone early. Cameron MacDonald led the offense with two hits, while Jersey Berg reached base consistently, scoring twice and driving in a run. Claire Minchuk provided the biggest swing of the game, recording a hit and driving in three runs, while also contributing in the circle.
Minchuk pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four. She worked around five walks but limited damage effectively. Lily Adams came on in relief and shut the door, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit to secure the win.
Game 2 saw momentum shift in favor of Dawson, as the Tetons fell 7-3. Williston State struggled to contain timely hitting and couldn't match Dawson's offensive production late in the game.
The challenges continued in Game 3, with Dawson pulling away for a 9-2 win. Despite a few offensive opportunities, the Tetons were unable to string together enough hits to stay within reach.
The finale proved to be the toughest outing of the series, as Williston State dropped an 18-7 decision in a high-scoring contest where Dawson capitalized on big innings.
Despite the series loss, the Tetons conclude the regular season with a 21-23 overall record and a strong 12-8 mark in conference play, earning a tie for third place in the MonDak standings. Due to conference tiebreaker procedures, a coin flip was required to determine seeding between Williston State and Miles Community College. The result did not fall in the Tetons' favor, placing them as the No. 4 seed heading into the Region 13 Tournament, while Miles secures the No. 2 spot.
Williston State now turns its focus to postseason play, where the Tetons will look to build off their Game 1 performance and make a run in the Region 13 Tournament. WSC will take on Lake Region in the opening round of the tournament on Thursday in Minneapolis at 2:00 CT.
